Playing with (old) Technology

  • Learning about automatic watch movements and how to calibrate them:
    • I’ve had a watch for over 10 years that I still love, but it was losing time.
    • Rather than purchase a new automatic watch, I decided I should learn how to repair one.
    • I purchased a basic watch repair kit and a timegrapher to improve the accuracy of my favorite watch.
  • Repairing and upgrading Jeep things:
    • After looking at the price of new vehicles, I decided to spend some money on specialty tools and do some repairs myself.
    • Taking my time on these things can be like meditating.

Getting My Heart Rate Up🩺

  • Longer walks with DOS in the forest, camera on hand (and a coffee) with 65lbs in the GoRuck.
    • My shoulders are usually jello after two consecutive days, so I’ll take a few days off to let them recover.
    • I’ve noticed the muscles in my feet can be a little sore the day after too, since I’ve been wearing Vivobarefoot shoes consistently for the fast few years (after transitioning from Lems).
  • Using an Ergatta water rower a few days a week.
    • The “gamification” holds my attention.
    • There have been many times I wanted to stop, but it guilts you into finishing a workout, and I haven’t abandoned one yet.
  • Also the usual sauna sessions, and mountain biking.

Cooking more whole foods for my dog 🐶🥕

  • Reading The Forever Dog has me making more conscious decisions about what I feed my pup.
  • His diet was always primarily salmon, natures logic kibble, and bone broth, but I have started batch making more veggies and legumes for him too.
  • I was surprised that he loves green beans, and isn’t a huge fan of boiled eggs.
  • Yams and carrots are usually winners.
  • He now gets a 1″ slice of a roast once a day for protein too.

Sauna and Cold Plunge ♨️❄️

A list of everything I used is available here.

  • I will be experimenting making a new sauna stove, one that uses a BioLite FirePit+ as the “core” of the stove.

  • I am curious if this will decrease the amount of smoke produced, and give a more consistent heat output.
